The Bree Hughes Team Cultivating Community Connection

At The Bree Hughes Team, we are dedicated to building strong connections within the community where we live, work, and play. Our goal is to provide you with helpful resources and knowledge beyond your real estate transaction. We want to be your go-to source for advice on anything related to our community. Whether you need a recommendation for a local florist, the best DJ for a party, or a trustworthy babysitter, we are here to help. We are invested in our community, and we are committed to making the best connections for you.

With that in mind, we are excited to share our latest community connection with you. Over the past year, I have been rebuilding my family’s home from the ground up. Through this process, I have learned many valuable lessons, some of which were taught by our wonderful designer, Teresa. Teresa Taccolini is San Clemente’s interior design expert and we were introduced to her at the SC Design Center. She recently answered some questions that we believe will be valuable to you if you are curious about the latest home renovation trends.

Read what Teresa had to share below.

What are some of the deciding factors for people when it comes to selecting the style of their home?

I believe some of the deciding factors for people when it comes to selecting the style of their home is based on 3 key factors. The first factor is the fixed elements unique to their home such as location, property size and the architectural style. The second factor I see that drives style is the individual or family’s lifestyle. Whether the individual is young and single, raising a family or looking forward to retirement years can change the scope of what is important in the design of the home.

The final factor that influences style is trends and social media. Most clients I come in contact with have images and ideas from Instagram and Pinterest that have helped them identify what style and look they are hoping to achieve in their own homes.

How do you best advise your clients on the latest trends?

The best advice I can give clients is to select quality materials that fit their style, preferences and that best suit their home. Trends can change quickly so it is important to make selections that have a timeless feel that compliments the architecture of the home. Attention to detail and the right material choices can create a look that is fresh and current, but that will look stylish for years to come.

Is there a balance between what’s trendy and what’s timeless?

There is a balance between trendy and timeless. Choosing neutral quality materials that have stood the test of time such as beautiful stone and wood elements is a great way to ensure that your home will have a quality feel without quickly feeling dated as trends change. The design of these materials can also make classic choices feel on trend just by the way you use them. For example, the direction you lay the tile or the color of stain you choose for the wood can dramatically impact the design. Quality materials create a wonderful backdrop and set the tone for the home, while furnishings, throw pillows and wallpaper can add a more trendy splash.

What are your top recommendations for a homeowner looking to make upgrades that will increase the value of their home?

Top recommendations would be to choose neutral quality materials, use beautiful solid surface materials such as marble, quartzite and quartz, and invest in door and window packages that bring in light and give the home a more open indoor/outdoor feel.

Let’s talk Luxury – What do you see as the most commonly requested feature?

The most requested luxury feature for homeowners that are building new homes or remodeling are panoramic door systems that allow homeowners to open up an entire wall or multiple walls of their home to create a blended indoor/outdoor living experience. These doors can be designed as accordion folding doors or multitrack sliders that stack or pocket. Whether these doors open to reveal a beautiful backyard or a stunning ocean view, they never disappoint, provide impact and enhance the aesthetic and value of the home.
